Vance has enjoyed comics, since he learned how to read.  His attention to detail and his knowledge of the body is seen in his many comic tattoos. Other influences include the appreciation of the athletic body which shows up in his depiction's of comic super heroes.  His enjoyment of the artistic endeavors of Boris Vallejo led to his rendering of men and women with classic musculature and noble mien.
